Connecting you at the speed of light.

What is a fiber-optic network?

Fibers are hair-thin glass encased in pipe and are able to send large messages at much higher speeds than traditional copper cable. In our network, 1.0 Gbps (that is, transfer speeds that are 50 times higher than what you're currently provided) are shared to offer virtually unlimited video, broadband and voice capability as well as protection against becoming obsolete.

RST employs Motorola's Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) to drive broadband Internet Protocol voice, video and data delivery as well as energy management applications. Motorola, the largest domestic telecommunications provider of residential and carrier optical access equipment, designed the GPON system to provide the technology to offer light-speed broadband services to residential customers and businesses and enable smart energy services.

Who is RST Communications?

RST Communications, LLC (RST) is a member-owned, NC-based company formed in July 2009 to construct and manage a last-mile fiber-optic network in unserved and underserved communities within the I-85 corridor in the Southeast region.

First-stage construction began in February 2010 in Cleveland county. With a commitment to quality, high performance and lower cost through Reliable Scalable Technologies, RST has resolved to provide significant market differentiation, while doing it right the first time.

What are we doing?

The first 18 miles of the 500 mile fiber route have already been completed, and we are in the process of completing the final miles. Our network will utilize the most advanced fiber-optic technology to provide the highest-quality, superior-performing communications and broadband services for municipalities and governmental institutions, utilities, healthcare providers, educational and research institutions, enterprises and data centers, and business and residential customers at a low cost.

The network is a highly integrated end-to-end architecture based on Internet Protocol and Fiber to the Home/Facility technology. RST is managing all aspects of the project, including design, construction, and operation and maintenance.

We anticipate that RST's commitment to quality, high performance and lower cost will provide significant market differentiation, job creation and sustained profitability for cities and communities throughout the Southeast.
